Justice of the Peace (JP) Services

The Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash, announced in June 08 that Justice of the Peace (JP) services are now available at her Nowra office.

Mrs Gash said a second staff member, Samantha Luxford, had now attained her Justice of the Peace accreditation. “We now have three people in the office who are Justices of the Peace; Sam, Ann Sudmalis and myself,” Mrs Gash said.

“We do have a lot of people come into the office and require the assistance of a JP and having an extra staff member now qualified to witness documents and so forth is a valuable assistance to the public.”

Mrs Gash said through the years the role of the Justice of the Peace had changed but it under NSW law, the role of a Justice of the Peace is:

* administering oath declarations or affidavits, and taking statutory declarations and affirmations principally under the Oaths Act 1900;

* witnessing signatures; and attesting and certifying documents.

Mrs Gash’s Nowra office is open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday.
