UOW’s Shoalhaven Campus welcomes Nursing staff

The first onsite Nursing School staff took up their positions on Shoalhaven campus this week. Both appointees are Shoalhaven locals who are thrilled to be part of this exciting Shoalhaven and UOW development.

The first Nursing School staff for Shoalhaven Campus are Jenny Sim and Yvonne White. Jenny was Director of Nursing at David Berry Hospital and brings significant local knowledge to the program. Yvonne White is the other, a UOW Nursing Lecturer who lives locally. Yvonne has been a regular visitor to the Library and IT resources available on Shoalhaven campus, but till now has been travelling to Wollongong Campus for her other work activities.

Jenny and Yvonne are looking forward to working with students on campus. Both are enthusiastic about the local campus and the range of resources available for students. As locals, both have links with the community which help make for a rich learning environment for the benefit of students.

Jenny, with her wide experience of the health industry locally, sees the development of a nursing program in Shoalhaven as a terrific benefit for local students, the health industry and the community.

Suzanne Punton-Butler, Director of Education Development (Nursing), welcomes the staff. Suzanne has been key to the planning process and its implementation and says “This development is good for regional students, good for nursing and it brings fresh ideas for the School and the Shoalhaven."

Robbie Collins, Head of Shoalhaven Campus, also welcomes the Nursing School to Shoalhaven campus. Robbie says “This is another cementing of the linkages UOW has with the Shoalhaven community. Once more the university will be working with the community to deliver outcomes that have huge benefits for the Shoalhaven.”

The campus infrastructure is growing as part of the development. The new building to house the Nursing School is due for completion in May this year. The Nursing School is funded by a $2.5million Federal grant which brings with it those drivers of the economy that are important for regional development.

The first students start at the Campus in February and the School is expecting a strong cohort for its first year. With Medicine in its second year of operation and Nursing starting, there is another layer of growth at the campus.

2008 is set to be another exciting year for Shoalhaven campus
