Wood Chopping
The Nowra show is one of the most prestigious events in the Woodchopping calendar, therefore the show attracts several of the best axemen in the world and current world champions, and spectators will see this sport at its absolute best. Our new spectator facilities as well are second to none at Country Shows. Competitors travel to the Nowra Show from throughout NSW as well as Tasmania, Queensland, Victoria and also New Zealand. Competitor numbers are the highest of any show other than the Royal Easter Show and Prize money on offer ranks amongst the highest in the State. People aged between 14 years and 80 years compete in events representing all standards for both Axemen and Sawyers.
Since the opening of the woodchop pavilion at Nowra Showground in 1999, spectators have become far more comfortable at this most popular part of the Nowra Show program as they are able to sit under cover, sheltered from all the elements while they watch the action. Nowra invariably attracts top axemen from around NSW and beyond, and all events are expected to be keenly contested. The woodchopping program gets under way at 6.00 pm on the Friday with heat 1 of the Video Ezy Underhand, which is followed by the Ace Building Components Standing Block event. A highlight of the first nights program is the Butchers Block, which this year is split into two divisions. Saturdays very full program, continuing non stop until 8.00pm starts with heat 1 of the Soilco Standing Block at 12.00pm, The first heat of the A & D Treefelling handicap is at 1.15, the cross cut sawing starts at 5.30pm and the Holiday Haven NSW V New Zealand teams race is at 7.10pm. Holiday Haven Trans Tasman Woodchopping SeriesA highlight of this year’s Nowra Show will be the wood chopping competition for the Holiday Haven Trans Tasman Series Cup. For some years the Nowra Show Society has been very proud to host this important trans Tasman wood chopping competition in conjunction with the NSW Axeman’s Association. Be sure to be at the show to cheer on the NSW side as they take on the New Zealand team and you will be sure to see wood chopping at its absolute best. |
