Our BrigadeThis website forms a key role in communicating with volunteers and the community, providing the latest news and information on fire management and Service activities. We are part of Group 4 Rural Fire District which provides service to Sussex Inlet, Wandandian, Berrara, Cudmirrah, Bendalong, Manyana and Lake Conjola. Our brigade attends calls to car accidents, structual house fires, bush fires and provides backup for SES and Police search and rescue operations. Within the Brigade itself, all members volunteer their time freely to assist the community. To make sure that the Brigade operates effectively and safely (especially in relation to firefighting), a number of members have taken on additional responsibilities other than front-line firefighting. The Brigade is led by the Captain. If the Captain or the Senior Deputy are absent then the Deputy steps up to assume the full role. We are all trained from the bottom up. Any of these officers is then referred to as the Officer In Charge (OIC). In addition to the Captain, Senior Deputy Captain and Deputy Captains, the Brigade also has a Training Officer and an Equipment Officer. The Training Officer"s role in to co-ordinate, manage, organise and supervise training of members. The role of the Equipment Officer is to ensure that the Fire Appliances are fully stocked with equipment and that equipment is serviceable at all times. All members that are a BF (Basic Firefighter) are taught in Pager Response as this is a critical area for the day to day running of the brigade but not everybody wants to do it and it is not compulsory . We are on call 24/7 and all members have a pager and we prefer that all attend a pager call but we don't always have a full attendance because of other commitments such as work etc. |
